Review of Reviews: Team America: World Police

By Samantha Bodette

On October 15, 2004 the movie Team America: World Police was released in the US. The film worldwide earned a total of $50,907,422. The name of the movie gives you a pretty good idea what it’s going to be about. Team America is a group of government agents who police the world. This pokes fun of the fact that America somehow tries to get involved with everyone's business due to its foreign policies. After the films release it earned generally high reviews. Coming from Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of South Park) many people entered Team America: World Police knowing what they were getting themselves into; something a little offensive, something a little raunchy, something a little disgusting, and overall hilarious. The film critics loved it. They loved the political satire of it all, the way it poked fun at the action films at the time, and it’s inappropriate humor.
The public agreed with what many of the film critics were saying. Many non-critic reviews usually started out with “Don’t watch this if you are easily offended.” The people loved the jokes and gags you’d expect from Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Many marionette enthusiasts loved the movie as well, talking about how they enjoyed the intricacy of all the dolls and their actions. The public overall seemed to love this movie. The film was nominated for several awards, only to win one of them, the Empire Award in 2006.
