You probably didn't know that they let goats teach online classes. Actually, I'm the one in the hat. My name is Zach Sands and I am a PhD candidate at Bowling Green State University, where I have taught film courses for the past three and a half years. I am currently working on my dissertation, entitled "Film Comedy and the American Dream," which I intend to complete in the summer of 2016. I enjoy playing music, riding my bike and cooking. I grew up in Michigan but have since lived in several places, including Los Angeles, Eastern Europe and a small island in the Pacific Ocean. I am married and we have two children. We currently reside in Bowling Green, Ohio.

My name is Michael Breitigan I grew up in the country a few miles outside of Findlay Ohio. I have managed a sporting goods store for the past seventeen years. My wife and I will celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary this May. We have lived in Bowling Green Ohio for the past nine years. When the weather permits I like going to the driving range and enjoying the outdoors. I am hoping to complete my degree at BGSU within the next year or so. I have always enjoyed movies especially science fiction movies.

My name is Mike Piacente. I am a senior at Firelands Campus. I live in Sandusky, Ohio. I graduated in December 2014 with my Associates in Criminal Justice and decided to continue my education. This is one of my last courses as I will graduate in the spring with my BLS. I am an avid gamer and spend most of my free time playing. A friend and myself have a Facebook page where we blog about games and movies. I also love to watch movies. That is one of the reasons I took this class. From what I have read so far about the class it seems like it will be a very interesting one to end my studies with Bowling Green State University. I look forward to working with everyone this semester.

Taylor is in her last year at Bowling Green, majoring in liberal studies with a focus in sociology. She is especially fascinated in learning about deviant behavior and the influence society has on a person. In her free time she likes 90's music, comedy shows, adventures and junk food. She is very optimistic, unathletic and enjoys cleaning way too much.

Hello! I’m Alyssa Kapelka. I’m a senior history major with a film minor. I plan on going to Grad school after graduation and hope to be an archivist (possibly film archivist). I currently have an internship at the Center for Archival Collections here at BG. I live off campus and work part time along with being a full time student.
I love comedy and being a “historian” has helped me to see comedies and how they relate to the historical contexts of the time it was created. So I totally agree with the fact that we can study and learn a lot from comedy!
I love Mel Brooks’ movies, Blazing Saddles being my favorite.  My favorite things to watch that make me laugh are shows like South Park, Family Guy and M*A*S*H. I am also obsessed with Saturday Night Live. I know none of those are films; I just wanted to show the range of my sense of humor.
I’m excited to watch films I haven’t seen before and most of all excited to study comedy!

My name is Isaac Bouyack and I am a Senior Telecommunications major and Film minor at Bowling Green State University.  I am a huge St. Louis Rams fan but they will soon be moving to Los Angeles, so I guess I am a huge Los Angeles Rams fan.  Other than that I mostly watch Detroit based teams: Pistons, Tigers, and Red Wings. Also, Go Spartans.  I would be very interested in some day working in the professional sports broadcast industry.
I grew up in Clyde, Ohio.  At Clyde High School I was a three sport athlete; Cross Country, Basketball, and Track.  I am a big fan of dogs in general and have an amazing black lab named Buck; he got his name because he was born on the day that the Buckeyes won the National Championship against Miami.  Not much else to say.  I am really looking forward to watching and discussing some good movies.

My name is Melanie & I am a senior Bachelor of Liberal Studies major with areas of concentration in English Literature, Writing, Languages and Human Behavior & will be graduating in May '16. I reside in Raeford, NC.  I originally attended BGSU right after HS (from '93-'95), transferred to University of Akron for a few years. After many years and several life-changes, I returned this past Summer to complete my degree online. I will be pursuing a MFA in writing in the Fall.  Aside from being a part-time student, I am a single mother of an amazing 6 yr old son.  I'm also a 'landlord', work part-time (outside of the home) & have run a small business as an Independent Beauty Consultant for the past 10 yrs.  I love music, nature, and living my truth!

My name is James Knapke and I am a senior here at BGSU. I am from Fort Wayne, Indiana and an currently studying Communications with a focus in management along with a minor in entrepreneurship and marketing. I am also a member of the football team and play quarterback. This busy schedule, balancing school and football, has taught me many life lessons and allowed me to experience many things most people do not get the opportunity to. In my spare time I enjoy reading and taking my dog Ziggy on walks. I hope to one day own my own companies as well as have a large family as I am the oldest of six children in my family.

My name is Alexa Stanford and I am currently a senior at BGSU. I’m studying Apparel Merchandising and Product Development with a minor in Marketing. I live in Whitehouse, Ohio and I am hoping to pursue a career in the fashion industry as either a merchandiser or buyer out of state when I graduate. I love sports, football being my favorite and I love cars too. In my free time I love working out and watching movies.

My name is Terry Snyder and I am a junior at BGSU Firelands. I hope to graduate this spring with an Associate of Arts degree and then continue on for a Bachelor of Liberal Studies. I have the privilege of working every day with special needs children. I was immediately drawn to this class when I saw it concentrated on comedies. Some of the best movies I have ever seen are the funny ones, like the Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy, Woody Allen and Mel Brooks. Comedies are usually a reflection of our current crises and idiosyncrasies and prove that a good sense of humor can get you through almost anything.

My name is Cynthia Baber, but I usually go by Cindy. I am currently a senior, working on my degree in Liberal Studies. I am married and have three children, twin boys who are eight years old and a daughter who is almost two.  I enjoy art, photography and design. I really enjoy any type of film genre, but I typically enjoy comedies most, so I’m very excited about this class!

My name is Paige Boos and I am currently a student and stay at home mother. I am a native of Colorado and a transfer student from the Denver Metropolitan University where I studied Hospitality and Tourism Management. In 2013 I moved from Denver to Sandusky Ohio when my husband left the Marine Corps. As there is no Hospitality program at the Firelands campus, I transferred majors to Liberal Studies with a concentration in Visual Arts with hopes to pursue my Alternative Educator License in Visual Arts after graduation (either this summer or the end of next fall). Before becoming a stay at home mom to a very rambunctious two year old boy, I was a staffing manager for a company that dealt with event staffing.

My name is Brittany Schmidlin and I am a liberal studies major with a focus in art and business. I am 23 years old and currently reside in Columbus, Ohio. I would consider myself a people person and love spending my time with my family and friends. I have been a server/bartender for several years, but I eventually would like to get out of the food industry after graduation. I have never taken a theater and film course, but I look forward to seeing what I will learn throughout the semester!

My name is Michael Abels and I am from Troy Michigan. I play intramural water polo and drop in hockey whenever I can. I am a freshman with a film major. I have known that I wanted to be in the film industry since I was in 8th grade. I had taken a film/tv class and I fell in love with editing so much that I knew i wanted to do this for the rest of my life. I also love to film stuff, which is why the short comedy video appeals to me so much. My favorite comedy movie that I can think of right off the bat would probably be Step Brothers. It is a movie that I had to sneak to watch growing up which made it an even better movie. I also still quote it with my friends to this day. Another comedy movie that I quote with my friends and watch multiple times is Goon. It is about a hockey player who is very bad at the sport and is only their to fight and protect another player. It is just a fun movie to watch if you love hockey and a great one to watch if you just want to laugh.

My name is Tom Cyphert, and I'm a fourth year Film Production Major.  I'm currently 21, I was born into a family of four in Cleveland, Ohio. My mother passed away when I was 5, & my brother & father worked together to raise me while my sister was off at college. During this time my brother introduced me to all of his movie & music knowledge, focusing on movies. Because of our tragedy in the family my brother had to give up an opportunity to make it big in Hollywood to raise me. With all of the movies I was raised on - I grew a passion for movies & the overall making of them. So I began making my own little videos at the age of 12 & eventually had a popular YouTube Channel. I was a little Independent filmmaker but eventually was bullied off of YouTube & took up Pixel Art as a hobby, from there I got into graphic design, & went to BG for VCT where I could combine all my passions. I helped form an improv troupe my first week & eventually was snagged after a show by a film student to act in a 48hour film. After participating in 8 films, I knew to follow my passion so I switched over to Film & that's what brought me to where I am today - the current president of the University Film Organization (still clueless as to how this happened).

My name is Charles Rainbow. I have had the privilege of attending Bowling Green State University from 1971 to 1973 (Clinical Psychology) but never completed for divers reasons. After 40 years I felt compelled to come back and finish what I started. I could not earn a degree in Psychology online, therefore I chose Liberal Studies. I am at the junior year level. I have found this experience to be both exciting and scary yet I am determined to see it through.
I currently have a very successful and demanding career in Information and Technology Management for the City of Dallas. I oversee the day to day activities of the IT Data Operations Center. After earning my degree; I plan to continue as a member of the IT Management team for the City of Dallas.
On July 24th of this year, my wife (Debi) and I will celebrate 40 years of marriage. We have two grown daughters, Kristian (35) and Dawn (32). Both are married and have successful professional careers. We also have been blessed with 4 grandchildren! I am a passionate bowler and a member of a semi-pro team and organization.

My name is Jenna Schultz, I have been married to my husband, Andrew, for four years. We are expecting our first child in June! Her name will be Nora. We are very excited! We have a dog, named Myla, she is very playful! I have an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. I am currently attending BGSU to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies. Over the summer I obtained a job at ADP, which is a human resource business. I love it! I started out as a summer intern and I have stayed to work over the school year. I support many clients, among them are Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Albemarle, which is a pharmaceutical company. I complete background checks, administrative tasks, physical and drug screen reviewing, interview scheduling and phone interviews. Essentially, my job is to help candidates through the hiring process for our clients. I am hoping to get a full time job with ADP when I graduate in August. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, along with watching movies and reading.

My name is Cory Jackson II and I am originally from Detroit, MI. Growing up in Detroit I have adapted a certain mentality that has followed me through my adulthood. I believe in opportunity and risk. To really live life is too experience life as what is is, take risk and learn from them along the way. I came to Bowling Green to get out the city and try something new. I was completely culture shocked at first but as time went on I adapted and really grew to love this school. All throughout my education I was involved in many student organizations and in college getting involved was my first priority.  My freshman year I was initiated into Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Joining Sigma was a major part of my college career. I changed my major a few times but I will be graduating with my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Media Business and Strategic Communication in August this year.

Currently I reside in Toledo and take classes online. Distance education works best with my schedule of working two jobs. It will be a year working at Enterprise at the end of this month and I also work at After School All Stars as a program leader at Walbridge Elementary. Directly working and influencing 6 through 8 grade students, as well as the other students in the program, has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. That's why I am going to develop my own programs for students using a unique set of skills that I feel are important in the development in the “millennial” generation. I am a photographer with a new business that I am launching. I am developing launching my own media platform  as well as other endeavors. Over my course of life, especially college I have learned my plans aren't simply mine they're Gods. So I thank him for getting me this far in life and college. I love comedy films so I took this class to enjoy some good viewings as well as to understand how to write and create this type of work. From previous film classes I have learned how to study films as well as enjoy them so everything I watch I analyze. I am looking forward to the experience I gain from this class over the course of the semester.

My name is Nicoletta Papalas, but my maiden name is Donofrio. For reasons dealing with different things at school I have to keep my name as Donofrio until the end of this semester. I just transferred from Youngstown State University to BGSU in the summer. I am originally from eastern Ohio. I just recently married my husband Cory in October of 2015 and we are expecting our first baby girl in May! We both cannot wait to be parents. Our little girls name will be Athena. I am currently at BGSU to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Biology. I am doing distance learning because I have two jobs that take up majority of my days and with my little girl coming around the time finals are I figured online would be the greatest way for me to go! I will be moving to Michigan here soon to be with my husband so we can prepare for our family to grow. I have taken a film course at my old college and I loved it so I am hoping that this one is just as great!

My name is Finnegan Burres and I am a Film Student interesting in pursuing film production, primarily in directing.  I came to this path because I have a great love of film, and am greatly interested in learning more about the field, the craft, and the industry.  Of course I seek experience in any of the many working parts of a film production, as I have a great interest in screenwriting and acting as well.  I think films are the best - they're fun, intriguing, thought-provoking, and they greatly impact and interlace with our culture.  Sounds fun to me.

Hello, my name is Richard Cole, but I go by Brandon, which is my middle name. I am currently a sophomore living on campus, but I move into my new house in May! I went to Patrick Henry High School, which is about 30 minutes from BGSU. I was in wrestling, football, and track in high school. Currently, I am an Exercise Science major, but I plan to change my major to marketing or advertising.

My name is Isaac Fletcher. I am a film production major at BGSU with an Asian studies minor. I love films and video games and am predominantly interested in doing sound design for either of the aforementioned. I enjoy making music as a hobby and am in my fourth semester of Japanese language. I plan to graduate in December 2016 and potentially move out of Ohio or even the country soon after.
Comedy is such a varying yet universal thing that has always been an interest to me. I have a lot of respect for people who make successful comedy films and am looking forward to being able to broaden my understanding of this topic. I have taken a few other classes with Zach, all of which I have enjoyed. He seems to be both knowledgeable and experienced so I look forward to taking this class as well.

My name is Tiffany Paul. I am from Swanton, Ohio and am currently a freshmen attending BGSU. My major is forensic biology and will be minoring in astronomy. I enjoy urban exploration and watching cult films. I also love reading, photography, and painting. I am a big fan of aliens and exploring nature.

My name is Katrina Bertz. I am from a small town, about a half hour away from Bowling Green called Napoleon. I still live there and commute to school every day. My dream is to go on to get my Master's degree and then a PhD. I want to teach film. I took this class as an elective and I am really looking forward to it.

My name is Ian Opaczewski, currently finishing up my 6th year in earning a dual bachelors degree. I attended The University of Toledo for almost four years before switching to BGSU. The degrees focus in film production and mechanical engineering. From Toledo but reside currently within BG. Hoping to use both degrees to open a production company preferably in North Carolina. Some go my hobbies include cooking, playing sports, listening/playing music and watching movies.

My name is James Bradley Szafran but I go by Bradley. I grew up in Michigan and have spent a few years of life living outside of Chicago and Dallas. I have spent years working fairly decent paying jobs but realized the limitations that a lack of a degree presented. I decided to get my degree to further my opportunities and ended up at BGSU after my wife and I moved down to Ohio so she could be closer to her family two years ago. I am pursuing a Liberal Studies degree because it allows me to work and take courses online. I will be graduating after summer term in 2016. Outside of school and work, I enjoy golfing, fishing, and hunting but my favorite thing to do is to spend time with my little boy. He is an incredible little 1 1/2 year old.

My name is Josh Likens. I'm from Columbus, Ohio and I am currently a first year with a film production major at BGSU. I really love film, and have aspirations of one day working in the industry as a cinematographer. Comedy is a really big part of film and I am excited and intrigued about everything that we will be learning throughout this course. Apart from movies, I also enjoy reading, listening to music, and playing video games.

Hello everyone! My name is Kristen St. John, I am 36 years old, and I am a freshman at the Firelands BGSU campus. I am studying to be in the medical billing and coding field and decided to return to school after many years, when my beautiful baby girl was born 2 years ago! Before her, I lived the I don't care kind of life, and now I truly have found my purpose. I grew up in the Sandusky, Ohio area, but at the age of 21 I moved to Sarasota, Florida, where I lived 14 fun filled years. Trust me, you are probably thinking it and I will say it, I NEVER thought I would come back here, but life always finds ways to surprise you. When my daughter was 4 months old, we moved back to the area to be closer to family. At the time it was a hard decision to make, but I can honestly say that the past year of our lives has been the best of mine so far. My support system is amazing and our future is bright! I have been in the serving industry for 16 years, and have been with the Olive Garden for the past 4 years. It has been a fun profession, but times are changing and that is another reason I am returning to school to further my education. I don't get much free time these days with a toddler running around, but when I do I enjoy reading, playing pool, and watching many different shows on television. I am excited to take this course with everyone and hope we all have a Great semester!

My name is Sam and I’m from Toledo, Ohio. I’m a freshman who is currently undecided in my major. I like anything that will get me outside such as hiking and climbing. When it’s too cold to go outside I usually will stay in and watch something that will make me laugh. Some of my favorite things are dogs, skateboards, movies, and music.
